About Girl Gains at UC Davis

Girl Gains is a nationwide female weightlifting organization that provides resources and community for women of all backgrounds and fitness levels.​ Founded in 2020 at San Diego State University and expanded to the Univerity of California-Davis in 2022.

 

Our mission is to promote weightlifting while empowering women to feel strong and beautiful in a judgment-free community. We are open to those who support this mission including those who are not woman-identifying and/or nonbinary.

How often does the club have meetings & events?

We aim to have 3-5 events a month with the exception of months we go on school breaks.

What do we do?

We do a variety of group workouts such as strength training workshops, Hit, yoga, hiking, etc. We also have guest speakers (certified nutritionists or personal trainers) collaborations with other organizations, and socials.

How often are buddy pairings?

We do buddy pairings every month, its optional, we pair members up together with someone with similar goals and workout routines to keep each other motivated, and its a great way to make friends.

What sets Girl Gains UCD apart?

What sets Girl Gains apart from any other generic fitness club is women's empowerment. We talk about so much more than just food and training - we aim to encourage women to be happier and healthier in every aspect of their life! The club was not created with the intention to exclude men, it was created with the intention to unite women. 

Why did Girl Gains UCD introduce dues?

Our membership fees contribute to various aspects our club, including stickers, our newsletter subscription, events, and materials. We strive to offer flexibility in our event options to cater to diverse interests, workout levels, and schedules. While non-members can attend events by paying a fee, we believe that being a member is more cost-effective in the long run.

Why can Non-Members attend events?

The reason why we let non-members join with a fee is an incentive for them to experience the quality of our events and consider becoming members. We want to assure you that our primary goals is to create a welcoming and inclusive enviroment.

What fitness level is required?

We welcome people of all fitness levels and backgrounds to join our community! We offer something for everyone, regardless of your experience.

Can UC Davis students join the club at any time?

Yes! Fill out this Google Form to join.

How do I find out about upcoming events?

We post a monthly calendar on our Instagram @girlgainsatucd with that month's events.

Who can join?

We welcome women, non-binary folk, and all gender identities from every fitness background.
